this thread is for any suggestions people have for keeping the sanctity and awe of the months of the Yomim Noharayim (days of awe, meaning Rosh Hashna and Yom Kippur) throughout the year. my suggestions:

1 have miniature "Rosh Hashana's" and "Aseres Yimey Teshuvah's"( the 10 days of repentance between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur) at various times throughout the year. examine yourself, read about Teshuva(repentance), read the english of the Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur machzorim, daven extra hard, check up on your resolutions, everything you would do during the Aseres Yimey Teshuvah. imagine you are being rejudged for the rest of the year.

2 read Mussar(ethical works on improving your self). try to get a schedule. also read things on Teshuvah.

3 examine yourself in the morning, at meal time, and at night time, as it says in i think it's called Yesod Hateshuvah.

4 have a Chesbon Hanefesh (self-examination) chart. divide you day into multiple periods of time (you can do it by hours, by school periods, etc) and write in each one what you did good then and what you need to improve upon. you will probably be more carefull after doing this. also have certain goals and middos (character traits) you want to work on each week. a warning: most people will write very few of the good things they do (and notice only a few to begin with) and be extra critical of themselves. dont get down on yourself.

any other suggestions? don't forget to translate any words some people might not know

wow thanks so much for that taon! great idea---i could use that

maybe u can do the yom kipur thing on yom kipur katan--the day before Rosh Chodesh---theres special tefilos if u look in a good sidur
