if anyone has lived in blatimore then u will understand this. baltimore is either boring, or to much violence to think about anything else. and its very tiresome, and sometimes scary. the jewish community is a big one yet there r more non-jews that r quite violent. u can only really understand this if ur in the park heights area. (park heights the non suburban area where jews live0 and its not the holiest city and i don't feel like i belong here and why would i want my future to be victimized with vilence and crime? wen i went to israel i went to shuls that i liked and i found myself there. plus i'm missing a lot of people that i know in israel and everything is weighing me down and all i want to do is go back. of course in the rite time. however the point is that i don't like any of the shuls here, i don't fit in. whut should i do?

Lilrebetzin-
Have you tried spending time i.e. on Shabbos afternoon on the Greenspring side? No violence, almost all frum people walking the streets... Nothing compares to Israel, but it might be better than your neighborhood.
swim-like-a-fish Posted - 18 July 2008 13:23
or the ranchleigh neighborhood--i agree with yisraell chaya libi. the neighborhood where you are currently located is the more violent side of town, the further down park heights the worse it gets. its much different on the "other side" of town.
hi from me Posted - 18 July 2008 13:23
um - her neighborhood isn't all that bad on Shabbos... Ever seen Park Heights on Shabbos?? I'll have to come say hello one of these days...
hi from me Posted - 18 July 2008 20:27
YCL & Swim are both right - but I was under the impression that you live at English Gardens? That isn't so far down Park Heights...
Yisraelle Chaya Libi Posted - 23 July 2008 14:53
Where are the "English Gardens?" On 7 mile? LR-Even if others think it's not that bad, i guess it's all up to how you feel? You should try some other neighborhoods? If you don't know so many people there, there's always me!
lilrebbetzin Posted - 23 July 2008 14:53
there has been stuff going on 7 mile ln. just not as much then further down

hi from me Posted - 27 July 2008 14:56
It's nice for everyone to say that she should try other neighborhoods, and it would be really great if she could, but don't forget that she can't either just up and move! Nor can she be away from home every, single Shabbos plus week-days too, probably... LilRebetzin - what are you doing this summer?

If you're looking something a little closer to Israel, ever tried a weekend at Yeshiva Lane? I totally agree with you about Baltimore, it's really not my cup of tea. I guess you're possibilities of escape really depend on your age.

Telling lilrebetzin to go to a different area of Baltimore will do nothing! I live in the park heights area and yeah, it CAN be violent sometimes, but not enough for you to be so dramatic about it. I was born here, I've lived in the same house my entire life, I know Baltimore like that back of my hand. Now, I totally understand the "not fitting in" part, truth be told, I don't think anyone really "fits in" unless their really into the TA/BY mentality, which I can tell you, my family is not, we didn't have good experiences with either. But if you're really that uncomfortable living here then just go back to Israel! Save up and make aliya. You need to do what's best for you and if you think Baltimore isn't what's best, then LEAVE!! Get out while you still can. Go somewhere else and flourish in your Torah learning! GO! Prosper and grow! And I wish you hatzlacha in whatever you end up doing.

Baltimore isn't as bad you make it sound,iv'e lived here for 11 years. Sure you hear once in a while something happend,to the people looking for trouble. how far down park heights do you live?? Baltimore is actually known for their achdus and the community is growing a lot. people wouldnt move to a "violent town" please word your posts carefully-dont want to blow things out of proportion.
