Is it depending on minhag that some girls light shabbos candles before they are married, or can they just decide to light if they feel they can and want the mitzvah?
Because I lit the other week when my mother was away, and I'm SURE I felt my extra Shabbos Neshama enter me just as I was saying the Beracha, and I felt so spiritually uplifted the whole Shabbos. Now I know you're not supposed to light before you have to if you're not sure you will be able to each week but could a person light? should i? I know its best not to but it was just so special to me...only I'm afraid I"ll forget one Shabbos and need an extra candle...
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

If it's not your minhag you should not light.
You did not feel your shabbos neshama - it was a psychological effect. Shabbos neshomos are not "feelable" things, with the notable exception of certain very very great tzadikim who are attuned in general to spiritual phenomena.
