HEY HEY Posted - 12 November 2007 15:08
I am a pretty frum girl, who went to a bais yaakov school... never hung out with guys (not that that means anything) but you get the picture. The problem is i really do not know if i want to go to seminary. it is just like the whole year of growing seems so fake to me. i am just not looking for a rabbi to have hashkafa talks and ask "all my questions." i love learning torah, but i could not imagine classes all day long for a whole year!!! i really want the israel expirence, but as horrible as this sounds the whole learning thing seems like thirteenth grade. any suggestions?? thanks!!!!!

I don't get where this concept of seminary being where you get all your questions answered came from. If you have questions, I definitely hope you get them answered by the time you're in seminary... but that's NOT why you go.

Why does the year of growth seem fake to you?

Wow! 4 years of Bais Yakov and not Seminary? That's a new one!
I'm only a Sophomore, but I still think I can come up with an answer to your questions.
During High School, I am sure that you have a myriad of DMC (Deep Meaningful Conversations) with your Morahs and Rabbiem...about life, G-D, His commandments, why he even commanded them...all these questions arose...and not a lot of them I bet were answered.
Your teachers did not know it, you accepted it...and moved on.
Seminary is not like that.
You get to form your own opinions on Judaism-and find out the answers for yourself. It's a chance away from all your teachers...family members...a lot of your friends...your home, your whole past!
It's a perfect time to figure things out for yourself, and begin thinking on your own-like a true women! And more importantly a true Bas Yisroel. It's important for a Bas Yisroel to have a basic understanding Judaism. To do that-you must answer your questions. Because, if you want to have a home filled with TORAH, and raise your kids in hopefully the right way-you have to answer your questions now!
Because time goes by fast...go to seminary...and do what you know in your heart is right!
